Vancouver rapper to sweat it out in Jasper

KYPRIOS, SWEATSHOP UNION’S LEAD MC, WILL KICK A FEW OF HIS FAMOUSLY NEUROTIC RHYMES AT THE ATHA-B ON MARCH 9  

His shadow simply wouldn’t shrink or grow- the sun cast it tall and lanky for hours behind him, on into what felt like the dead of night, as Kyprios marched away from a Canada Day show in the North West Territories that he’d played with fellow members of Vancouver rap crew Sweatshop Union. And as the lead MC basked in that endless solstice midnight high noon, he was struck by a swooning, sinking feeling.

“It was 10:30 at night, we’d played our hearts out and the sun was still blazing, I’d never been so exhausted or seen anything so beautiful and surreal,” said Kyprios, who will play an intimate solo set at the Atha-B on March 9, of the famous endless Northwest daylight that left his sweat soaked audience sparkling that night. “That weird dichotomy kind of reminded me of my bipolar nature as a musician man. It inspired the title and the concept for the new record I’m working on now.”

Ghettosocks to perform at The Capital on Saturday

HALIFAX BRED MC WILL BRING HIS UNIQUE BRAND OF GEEKY RAP TO THE CAPITAL’S STAGE ON MARCH 6.

Even when Ghettosocks first began honing his rhymes against rival rappers in the halls of his Halifax high school, he knew he needed a creatively deceptive edge- like regularly wearing geeky spectacles without lenses, knowing full well his peers would try to make a lyrical spectacle of such a style.

`When I was in high school I wore glasses with no lenses to see if anyone noticed,“said the lauded Atlantic Canadian MC, who will be performing at the Capital Complex on March 6. “Pretty soon I could count on other kids having premeditated rhymes about my specs. So, right before the battle, I’d take them off to throw them off. Ya know, employed it as a tactic in battling to predict where they’d go (with their insults), kind of a rudimentary form of mind control.”
