Beloved iguanas rescued from nursery building

As fire departments from around the region fought the blaze at Scott’s Nursery on Monday, several employees ran back toward the burning building they’d spent years working in.

Diane Earl was one of them, waiting at the front doors with outstretched arms, as firefighters carried out two survivors – Beatrice and Pompy, the owners’ pet iguanas.

“It was just adrenaline; I didn’t have time to think of anything,” said Earl of what had been racing through her mind as she ran toward the thickening smoke. “I’d been waiting to hear about them for half an hour and I needed to have a look.”
